Geopolitical Friction in the Maghreb
In a significant shift within North Africa’s diplomatic landscape, Algiers has formally severed diplomatic ties with the United Arab Emirates following prolonged tensions with Abu Dhabi. The rupture stems directly from fundamental disagreements over regional strategic alignments, most notably the UAE’s leadership in advancing regional normalization with Israel and its diplomatic backing of Moroccan territorial sovereign claims in Western Sahara.
